Phoenix is an exceptional new alfalfa variety that has field proven resistance to Sclerotinia crown and stem rot. Sclerotinia is a soilborne fungus that causes poor stand establishment and low productivity in summer and fall planted alfalfa over a large area of the east-central and southeastern United States. With Phoenix, farmers now have an alfalfa variety that can help reduce the risk of stand failure due to Sclerotinia. Phoenix is well adapted to the east-central, southern and intermountain areas of the United States and has an excellent disease resistance package. Whether it’s for Sclerotinia infested soils or for high forage yields, superior forage quality, persistence and very fast recovery after cutting, Phoenix gives commercial hay, beef and dairy producers the flexibility to plant alfalfa in the fall or spring.
