AST7001 is a new elite turf-type tall fescue variety developed from turf plot selections in Pennsylvania and Oregon. AST7001 exhibits overall superior turf quality, improved wear resistance and superior heat and drought tolerance. One key characteristic that makes this variety unique is a very aggressive tillering growth habit that allows the plant to recover more quickly from damage and fill in bare spots or thin areas. AST7001 has improved resistance to Brown Patch and Pythium Blight which are major contributors to decline in tall fescue quality and stand. AST7001 is a very dense, medium-fine textured tall fescue with an outstanding dark green, uniform color.
